The rules, in plain language.
Mapping Bills is a receipt-tracking app by Nortruva Labs. These terms govern your use of the app and the service behind it — what's free, what a credit is, and what we each promise.
The short version
- Free tier: 15 credits per month. One credit = one cloud receipt parse. Credits reset every month.
- Failed cloud attempts never consume a credit. Offline parsing never consumes a credit.
- Cloud parsing sends only the OCR text of a receipt to our parser. Receipt images are never uploaded.
- Paid plans (monthly/annual "Unlimited") are not live yet — these terms will govern them when they launch.
- You own your data: export it as CSV/ZIP anytime, back it up to your own Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iPhone), or delete your account in the app.
- Use the app for your own receipt tracking — don't abuse the service or resell access to it.
1. Acceptance
By installing, opening, or using the Mapping Bills app, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
You must be 18 or older to use Mapping Bills.
2. The service
Mapping Bills ("the app", "the service") is a receipt-tracking app developed and operated by Nortruva Labs, Canada. It scans receipts, extracts what you bought and what you paid, tracks unit prices across stores, and estimates card rewards.
The app is provided for your personal, non-commercial use.
3. Credits & the free tier
The free tier includes 15 credits per month. One credit = one cloud receipt parse. Credits reset at the start of each calendar month and do not roll over.
| Event | Credits consumed |
|---|---|
| Successful cloud receipt parse | 1 |
| Failed cloud parse (error, timeout, unreachable) | 0 — failed attempts never consume credits |
| On-device offline parse | 0 — offline parsing is always free and unlimited |
| Re-scanning the same receipt | 1 (each cloud parse is billed once) |
If you run out of monthly credits, cloud parsing pauses until the next reset — the app keeps working offline with unlimited on-device parsing.
4. Cloud parsing
When a receipt is scanned and credits are available, the app sends the OCR-extracted text of the receipt to our cloud parser. Receipt images are never uploaded — the photo stays on your device.
Our proxy forwards the text to Google's Gemini API for parsing, keeps no logs of receipt content, and records only an anonymous monthly count for quota enforcement. See our Privacy Policy for details.
5. Offline fallback
If your device is offline, or the cloud is unreachable, the app automatically parses the receipt on-device instead — silently, with the same result screen. Offline fallback never consumes credits.
6. Subscriptions
An "Unlimited" tier — billed monthly or annually through the App Store or Google Play — is planned. Paid plans are not live yet; everything in the app is currently free.
When paid plans launch, these terms will govern them: subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, prices are shown in the app before purchase, and you can manage or cancel through your app store account. "Restore Purchases" in the app re-syncs your plan across devices.
7. Your data & your account
- You own your data. Receipts are stored on your device; optional backup goes to your own encrypted Google Drive (Android) or your own private iCloud (iPhone) — we cannot access either.
- Export anytime: your receipts and parsed data can be exported as CSV or ZIP from the app.
- Delete your account from within the app at any time — this deletes your local data, your sign-in record, and your server-side quota records. Backups in your own Drive or iCloud are deleted by you.
- You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials and backup passwords safe.
8. Acceptable use
Use the service fairly. You agree not to:
- Abuse the quota system — e.g., automating scans at scale, sharing accounts to pool credits, or circumventing credit enforcement.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the service or its cloud parser.
- Upload content you don't have the right to process, or use the app for anything unlawful.
- Interfere with the service's operation — no probing, flooding, or attempting unauthorized access.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, after notice where reasonable.
9. Intellectual property
Mapping Bills — the app, its code, design, branding, and the parsing engine — is the property of Nortruva Labs and is protected by intellectual property laws. These terms give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the app; they transfer no ownership.
Your receipts and the data you enter remain yours.
10. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. In particular:
- Parsed results are estimates. OCR and AI parsing can misread a receipt. Always verify totals before relying on them for taxes, expense reports, or financial decisions.
- Reward estimates are approximate — actual points or cash back are determined by your card issuer's terms.
- Price-watch alerts are informational, not financial advice.
- We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation; cloud parsing depends on third-party services.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Nortruva Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app — including any loss from relying on parsed data, reward estimates, or price alerts.
Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or CA$10 if you paid nothing).
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app evolves — especially before paid plans launch. Material changes will be announced in the app, and the "Effective" date above will be revised. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
